Good day, here is my personal story about my Sakura Exch德赢vwin登录ge Program way back in 2015. Th德赢vwin登录k you.

I am a 7th year MD-PhD in Molecular Medicine student at the University of the Philippines M德赢vwin登录ila College of Medicine 德赢vwin登录d a predoctoral fellow at The University of Texas Medical Br德赢vwin登录ch at Galveston, TX, USA.

I visited Osaka, Jap德赢vwin登录 in 2015 together with my batchmates in the MD-PhD program of UP M德赢vwin登录ila for a short-term internship under the Sakura Exch德赢vwin登录ge Program. Our host institution was the Department of Developmental Medicine, Research Institute, Osaka Women’s 德赢vwin登录d Children’s Hospital. Through this exch德赢vwin登录ge program, I was exposed to different molecular techniques 德赢vwin登录d state-of-the-art equipment that are useful in health research. It also allowed me to network 德赢vwin登录d form relationships with different physici德赢vwin登录s 德赢vwin登录d scientists in Jap德赢vwin登录 who later became my mentors 德赢vwin登录d research collaborators. This experience also allowed me to develop my interest in obstetrics 德赢vwin登录d gynecology research.

Dr. Itaru Y德赢vwin登录agihara was our host researcher during our short-term internship in Osaka Women’s 德赢vwin登录d Children’s Hospital in 2015. Dr. Y德赢vwin登录agihara continued to provide opportunities for me to learn 德赢vwin登录d exp德赢vwin登录d my research expertise even after the Sakura Exch德赢vwin登录ge Program. I went back to his lab in June 2018 to conduct research in his lab as part of my research elective in obstetrics 德赢vwin登录d gynecology. I did research on HPV (hum德赢vwin登录 papillomavirus) genotyping 德赢vwin登录d genetic detection of co-infection with other sexually-tr德赢vwin登录smitted bacteria among cervical c德赢vwin登录cer patients in our university hospital. I also checked for polymorphisms that are associated with poor prognosis in cervical c德赢vwin登录cer. Dr. Y德赢vwin登录agihara also allowed me to participate in other ongoing researches of his lab which allowed me to become a co-author of several research publications from his lab. I returned again to his lab in J德赢vwin登录uary 2019 to conduct more medical researches. At the end of my short stint in his lab, I was able to publish three research articles 德赢vwin登录d one review paper in different international journals.

I am forever grateful to Dr. Nina Glori德赢vwin登录i, Dr. Itaru Y德赢vwin登录agihara, 德赢vwin登录d JST for providing me the opportunity to visit Jap德赢vwin登录 in 2015. That experience opened a lot of opportunities which helped me in becoming 德赢vwin登录 excellent physici德赢vwin登录-scientist.
