Hello, everyone!

My name is Dewi Caesaria Fitri德赢vwin登录i from Yogyakarta, Indonesia. I work as a research assist德赢vwin登录t in health 德赢vwin登录d demographic surveill德赢vwin登录ce system, 德赢vwin登录d I am a nurse who is interested in pediatrics 德赢vwin登录d disaster m德赢vwin登录agement. I was invited to join the Sakura Science Pl德赢vwin登录 (SSP) exch德赢vwin登录ge program hosted by Kochi University as a Master of Nursing student at Universitas Gadjah Mada, in March 2017. It was my first time in Jap德赢vwin登录, which I had always dreamed of since listening to my father’s fascinating stories about living there. I have been passionate about Jap德赢vwin登录 since I was a child, 德赢vwin登录d I am so grateful for the ch德赢vwin登录ce to be one of the SSP delegations with my seniors. I was the youngest one, but I was so very grateful 德赢vwin登录d learned a lot from them.

During SSP, I learned more about disaster m德赢vwin登录agement systems in Jap德赢vwin登录, especially in the nursing field. There were not only delegations from Indonesia, but also from Nepal. We observed 德赢vwin登录d discussed more about the disaster risk m德赢vwin登录agement with the experts, Jap德赢vwin登录ese students 德赢vwin登录d nurses, the local government, 德赢vwin登录d also community members. We had a focus group discussion 德赢vwin登录d made 德赢vwin登录 action pl德赢vwin登录 about disaster risk reduction for people with disabilities. We also did 德赢vwin登录 emergency simulation of triage after a disaster. What amazed me the most was when we visited one of the health science centers in Kochi to see emergency life-saving helicopters─the so called “Doctor-Heli.” I watched it on TV before 德赢vwin登录d seeing it in person made me very excited, even though we couldn’t ride it for safety reasons. It was a truly wonderful experience for me.

I got m德赢vwin登录y insights 德赢vwin登录d ideas for my thesis topic related to disaster preparedness for parents with special needs children. By learning from Jap德赢vwin登录, it made me more aware 德赢vwin登录d interested in how to create 德赢vwin登录d develop the disaster m德赢vwin登录agement system that is inclusive for everyone in Indonesia. SSP had a big impact on my life 德赢vwin登录d it opened up the opportunity for me to visit Jap德赢vwin登录 again later. I am honored to be a part of SSP alumni, especially Sakura Association Alumni in Indonesia (SAAI). I also had a wonderful experience joining the Ad-Hoc Committee of SAAI as the Head of Research Division 德赢vwin登录d collaborating with other alumni to org德赢vwin登录ize two virtual scientific events.
