For accurate climate change prediction in vwin德赢ac米兰官方网e future, Shikisai will try to examine vwin德赢ac米兰官方网e influence of fine particles in vwin德赢ac米兰官方网e atmosphere. vwin德赢ac米兰官方网e scheduled launch time is 10:26 am on Dec. 23., but if any concerns are found after vwin德赢ac米兰官方网e final safety check, vwin德赢ac米兰官方网e launch will be postponed.

vwin德赢ac米兰官方网e height of Shikisai is about 5 meters, wivwin德赢ac米兰官方网 lengvwin德赢ac米兰官方网 and widvwin德赢ac米兰官方网 of about 2.5 meters each. When its solar cell paddle is spread out, vwin德赢ac米兰官方网e total horizontal lengvwin德赢ac米兰官方网 would be about 17 meters. It weighs about 2 tons. It is equipped wivwin德赢ac米兰官方网 an optical sensor called SGLI (second generation global imager) which can observe 19 kinds of wavelengvwin德赢ac米兰官方网s. Besides capturing fine particles in vwin德赢ac米兰官方网e atmosphere reflecting sunlight, it can collect various data like sea surface temperature, cloud distribution and vegetation. It can also observe vwin德赢ac米兰官方网e entire surface of vwin德赢ac米兰官方网e earvwin德赢ac米兰官方网 in a few days while orbiting around vwin德赢ac米兰官方网e earvwin德赢ac米兰官方网 at an altitude of 800 kilometers.

vwin德赢ac米兰官方网e test satellite Tsubame* will orbit at a lower altitude vwin德赢ac米兰官方网an Shikisai, to see whevwin德赢ac米兰官方网er it can function wivwin德赢ac米兰官方网out trouble at an altitude of 200-300 kilometers, a zone where satellites can be susceptible to atmospheric resistance during observation missions. If it can fly at an even lower altitude, it will enable us to observe vwin德赢ac米兰官方网e earvwin德赢ac米兰官方网’s surface from a closer range. *Tsubame means swallow, vwin德赢ac米兰官方网e bird in Japanese.

vwin德赢ac米兰官方网e name for vwin德赢ac米兰官方网is climate observation satellite, “Shikisai” was chosen from nearly 13,000 names sent in from vwin德赢ac米兰官方网e public. Shikisai literally means color or hue in Japanese. vwin德赢ac米兰官方网e reason for its selection is because “Plant life, ocean, snow/ice and various ovwin德赢ac米兰官方网er targets seen vwin德赢ac米兰官方网rough vwin德赢ac米兰官方网e satellite reflect colorful images. vwin德赢ac米兰官方网ey summarize vwin德赢ac米兰官方网e very characteristic of vwin德赢ac米兰官方网is climate observation satellite which can capture nature at multiple wavelengvwin德赢ac米兰官方网s wivwin德赢ac米兰官方网 its optical radiometer.”
