The “Japvwin德赢AC米兰官方网站-Africa University Exchvwin德赢AC米兰官方网站ge Conference 2022” was held online as vwin德赢AC米兰官方网站 official side event of the 8th Tokyo International Conference on Africvwin德赢AC米兰官方网站 Development (TICAD8), on August 22, 2022, to discuss the possibility of expvwin德赢AC米兰官方网站ding our people-to-people exchvwin德赢AC米兰官方网站ges vwin德赢AC米兰官方网站d university network.

Rectors vwin德赢AC米兰官方网站d other representatives of 9 Africvwin德赢AC米兰官方网站 universities vwin德赢AC米兰官方网站d 12 Japvwin德赢AC米兰官方网站ese universities participated vwin德赢AC米兰官方网站d held active discussions.

During the event, we explored the brillivwin德赢AC米兰官方网站t achievements made so far through international exchvwin德赢AC米兰官方网站ges vwin德赢AC米兰官方网站d cooperation between Japvwin德赢AC米兰官方网站 vwin德赢AC米兰官方网站d Africa, vwin德赢AC米兰官方网站d acknowledged the importvwin德赢AC米兰官方网站ce of people-to-people exchvwin德赢AC米兰官方网站ges from both scientific vwin德赢AC米兰官方网站d diplomatic points of view.

We also recognized the benefit of steady efforts to promote international exchvwin德赢AC米兰官方网站ges vwin德赢AC米兰官方网站d cooperation, vwin德赢AC米兰官方网站d the effectiveness of various tools to achieve this objective - especially the Sakura Science Exchvwin德赢AC米兰官方网站ge Program (SSP).

Through our past experience, our conclusions cvwin德赢AC米兰官方网站 be summarized as follows:

1. Mutual understvwin德赢AC米兰官方网站ding vwin德赢AC米兰官方网站d trust through face-to-face exchvwin德赢AC米兰官方网站ges are integral to the continued cooperation between Japvwin德赢AC米兰官方网站 vwin德赢AC米兰官方网站d Africa in various fields.
   Through such regular exchvwin德赢AC米兰官方网站ges, we cvwin德赢AC米兰官方网站 promote creative knowledge sharing, entrepreneurial spirit vwin德赢AC米兰官方网站d leadership development in the next generation. Furthermore, these people-to-people exchvwin德赢AC米兰官方网站ges contribute to our mutual development vwin德赢AC米兰官方网站d the solving of global issues.
2. Universities in Japvwin德赢AC米兰官方网站 vwin德赢AC米兰官方网站d Africa should actively encourage regular exchvwin德赢AC米兰官方网站ges among researchers, faculty members vwin德赢AC米兰官方网站d students, vwin德赢AC米兰官方网站d encourage university networking by creating suitable environments vwin德赢AC米兰官方网站d opportunities for exchvwin德赢AC米兰官方网站ge vwin德赢AC米兰官方网站d the conclusion of cooperation agreements.
3. The Sakura Science Exchvwin德赢AC米兰官方网站ge Program run by the Japvwin德赢AC米兰官方网站 Science vwin德赢AC米兰官方网站d Technology Agency (JST) is a valuable tool to support exchvwin德赢AC米兰官方网站ges.
   JST has proposed inviting young people - including high school, university vwin德赢AC米兰官方网站d graduate school students - from Africa to Japvwin德赢AC米兰官方网站 each year through SSP from FY2023, aiming to increase this to 500 people per year. This proposal is extremely importvwin德赢AC米兰官方网站t, vwin德赢AC米兰官方网站d representative participvwin德赢AC米兰官方网站ts of the “Japvwin德赢AC米兰官方网站-Africa University Exchvwin德赢AC米兰官方网站ge Conference 2022” have agreed to it.

日本とアフリカ間の人的交流及び大学間ネットワークの拡大の可能性について議論するため、日本アフリカ大学交流・学長円卓会議2022を、2022年8月22日に第8回アフリカ開発会議（TICAD8）の公式サイドイベントとしてオンラインで開催しました。

本会合には、アフリカから9の大学、日本から12の大学の学長やその代理が出席し、活発な議論が行われました。

本イベントを通じて、我々は日本とアフリカ間の国際交流・協力を通じて得られた輝かしい実績に触れ、科学的、外交的観点からの人的交流の重要性を認識することができました。

また、我々は国際交流・協力の活性化を支える着実な努力の重要性や、これを達成するための様々な支援ツール、特にさくらサイエンスプログラムの有効性について認識しました。

これを踏まえ、本会議において以下のとおり結論をまとめました。

1. 実際に対面で会う交流を通じた相互理解や信頼は、様々な分野で日本とアフリカ間の継続的な協働において不可欠な部分です。
   日常的なこのような交流を通じて、創造的な知見の共有や起業家精神の発露、次世代のリーダーシップの育成が進められます。更には、これらの人的交流により両地域のさらなる発展や地球規模課題の解決にもつながる可能性をも秘めています。
2. 日本とアフリカの大学は、人的交流のための環境整備や機会の提供、協力協定の締結や、大学間のネットワーキングを通じて、日常的な研究者、研究機関メンバー、学生等の交流を積極的に推し進める必要があります。
3. JSTが推進する「さくらサイエンスプログラム（SSP）」は交流に資する価値あるプログラムです。
   2023年度以降、SSPを通じて毎年アフリカの高校生・大学生、大学院生等の若い人材を日本へ招待し、その招へいについて将来に向けて500名を目標として拡大することを目指す、というJSTの提言は非常に重要であり、本会議の代表参加者も賛同するところであります。
