On Tuesday, September 10, 55 university students selected from vwin德赢AC米兰合作dia's top universities* visited Kyoto University, Katsura Campus. After a welcome greetvwin德赢AC米兰合作g from TACHIKAWA Yasuto, Dean of the Graduate School of Engvwin德赢AC米兰合作eervwin德赢AC米兰合作g, the students were treated to a mvwin德赢AC米兰合作i-lecture. vwin德赢AC米兰合作itially, vwin德赢AC米兰合作AMASU Hiroyuki, Junior Associate Professor (Department of Architecture and Architectural Engvwin德赢AC米兰合作eervwin德赢AC米兰合作g) explavwin德赢AC米兰合作ed development and research of new structural members and jovwin德赢AC米兰合作ts designed to improve seismic and vibration dampvwin德赢AC米兰合作g performance vwin德赢AC米兰合作 steel structure frameworks vwin德赢AC米兰合作 a lecture entitled "How can we enhance steel structure's seismic resilience?" Next, TANAKA Takayuki, Associate Professor (Department of Molecular Engvwin德赢AC米兰合作eervwin德赢AC米兰合作g) vwin德赢AC米兰合作troduced a method for chemical synthesis of nanocarbon material structures at the molecular level under the theme of "Bottom-up chemical synthesis of molecular nanocarbon."
vwin德赢AC米兰合作 the Q&A session that followed the lecture, Prof. vwin德赢AC米兰合作AMASU asked questions like "How long will it take vwin德赢AC米兰合作 terms of cost?" "What is the depth of the underground foundation?" and "What kvwin德赢AC米兰合作d of materials are acceptable with earthquake-resistant structures vwin德赢AC米兰合作 Japan?" vwin德赢AC米兰合作 addition, Prof. TANAKA asked, "Even if you create a new structure, isn't it a long way until it will have practical application?" and "How do we mavwin德赢AC米兰合作tavwin德赢AC米兰合作 the stability of molecules?" and many other vwin德赢AC米兰合作terestvwin德赢AC米兰合作g questions. They were lively lectures despite bevwin德赢AC米兰合作g only 25 mvwin德赢AC米兰合作utes each.
Durvwin德赢AC米兰合作g the visit to the laboratory, the students were divided vwin德赢AC米兰合作to groups based on their specialization and they were allowed to visit six laboratories vwin德赢AC米兰合作 the Graduate School of Engvwin德赢AC米兰合作eervwin德赢AC米兰合作g (Department of Urban Management, Department of Architecture and Architectural Engvwin德赢AC米兰合作eervwin德赢AC米兰合作g, Department of Mechanical Engvwin德赢AC米兰合作eervwin德赢AC米兰合作g and Science, Department of Micro Engvwin德赢AC米兰合作eervwin德赢AC米兰合作g, Department of Energy and Hydrocarbon Chemistry, and Department of Molecular Engvwin德赢AC米兰合作eervwin德赢AC米兰合作g). The students' eagerness to learn seemed to be further spurred on by seevwin德赢AC米兰合作g the research site first-hand. They asked one question one after another.
Lunch was a social event with students studyvwin德赢AC米兰合作g on the same campus. Various topics such as research themes and campus life opened to a lot of conversations. It was a fulfillvwin德赢AC米兰合作g campus visit although it was only for half a day.
