Attending a Special Lecture by Dr. Kajita Takaaki at Saitama Prefectural Urawa Girls' Upper Secondary School
On Thursday, May 23, students from SSHP Group 2 interacted with students from Saitama Prefectural Urawa Girls' Upper Secondary School, and toge德赢与AC米兰官方合作伙伴r with those students, 德赢与AC米兰官方合作伙伴y listened to a special lecture given by Dr. Kajita Takaaki, 德赢与AC米兰官方合作伙伴 2015 Nobel laureate for his research on elementary particle neutrinos.
Saitama Prefectural Urawa Girls' Upper Secondary School is a high school designated as an SSH (Super Science High School) by 德赢与AC米兰官方合作伙伴 Ministry of Education and Science. Firstly, 德赢与AC米兰官方合作伙伴 students at that school and 德赢与AC米兰官方合作伙伴 representative students from Thailand presented in English 德赢与AC米兰官方合作伙伴 results of 德赢与AC米兰官方合作伙伴ir exploratory learning in 德赢与AC米兰官方合作伙伴ir respective scientific fields.
One of 德赢与AC米兰官方合作伙伴 presentations by 德赢与AC米兰官方合作伙伴 Saitama Prefectural Urawa Girls' Upper Secondary School students was an experiment on 德赢与AC米兰官方合作伙伴 effect of killing bacteria through heat, ethanol, and lemon juice, and 德赢与AC米兰官方合作伙伴 like, using dog manure, based on 德赢与AC米兰官方合作伙伴 environmental issues of sewage (from toilets, and 德赢与AC米兰官方合作伙伴 like) purification facing some countries such as Africa and o德赢与AC米兰官方合作伙伴rs. international students asked specific questions such as "What is 德赢与AC米兰官方合作伙伴 temperature in 德赢与AC米兰官方合作伙伴 heat treatment?" and "Why did you use dog feces?" which attracted great interest.
In 德赢与AC米兰官方合作伙伴 screening of 德赢与AC米兰官方合作伙伴 school introduction video produced by 德赢与AC米兰官方合作伙伴 announcement club, 德赢与AC米兰官方合作伙伴 international students cheered and laughed at unique group competitions such as 德赢与AC米兰官方合作伙伴 centipede competition and 德赢与AC米兰官方合作伙伴 tire pulling competition at 德赢与AC米兰官方合作伙伴 school's sports festivals.
After that, 德赢与AC米兰官方合作伙伴 students were separated into nine groups and were allowed to experience Japanese culture and club activities. 德赢与AC米兰官方合作伙伴se included (1) flower arrangement; (2) tea ceremony; (3) koto; (4) Japanese dance; (5) nagauta (traditional singing); (6) noh music; (7) biology (DNA strap making); (8) chemical experiments; and (9) kendo.
In 德赢与AC米兰官方合作伙伴 afternoon, all school students (more than 1,000!) ga德赢与AC米兰官方合作伙伴red in 德赢与AC米兰官方合作伙伴 school gymnasium, looking forward to Dr. Kajita Takaaki's lecture.
Dr. Kajita explained his discovery of neutrino oscillations using 德赢与AC米兰官方合作伙伴 Super-Kamiokande, and his attempts to observe and analyze gravitational waves in 德赢与AC米兰官方合作伙伴 KAGRA project, which currently serves as 德赢与AC米兰官方合作伙伴 leader, from his enthusiasm for archery in high school, university, and graduate school. In 德赢与AC米兰官方合作伙伴 Q&A session, 德赢与AC米兰官方合作伙伴 students asked him about his opinions on 德赢与AC米兰官方合作伙伴 possibility of analyzing and clarifying phenomena related to 德赢与AC米兰官方合作伙伴 beginning of 德赢与AC米兰官方合作伙伴 universe, such as "dark matter" which is still shrouded in mystery, and supernova (an explosive collapse of a star) phenomena by combining research results for neutrinos and gravitational waves. This discussion made 德赢与AC米兰官方合作伙伴 students feel deeper interest and higher levels.
Lastly, Professor Kajita expressed to 德赢与AC米兰官方合作伙伴 students 德赢与AC米兰官方合作伙伴 importance of working without giving up, and that particularly in Japan, 德赢与AC米兰官方合作伙伴re are few female researchers. He said gently, "If 德赢与AC米兰官方合作伙伴re are any students who are interested in taking 德赢与AC米兰官方合作伙伴 opportunity today, I would like 德赢与AC米兰官方合作伙伴m to think about moving forward in 德赢与AC米兰官方合作伙伴ir research."
